HSPA: High Speed Packet Access

High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) is the terminology used when both HSDPA and HSUPA technologies are deployed on a network. HSPA is strongly positioned to be the leading mobile data technology for the rest of the decade. To leverage operator investments in HSPA and enhance the quality of service across HSPA networks, standards bodies are examining a series of enhancements to create "HSPA Evolution," also referred to as "HSPA+." HSPA Evolution represents a logical development of the Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) approach and will eventually provide the stepping-stone to an entirely new Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) radio platform called 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE).
